You Create a Family Adoption Planning is a private non-profit adoption agency licensed since 1990 by the State of Georgia. The agency places healthy children, primarily infants, with families who can provide a stable, loving, and secure home. Who Can Adopt? Adoption Planning seeks to support couples and singles wishing to adopt a child. Generally, applicants should be between the ages of 25 and 45. Anyone more than 45 years of age will be considered on a case by case basis. There are no marital, race, or religious requirements for prospective adoptive families. Each applicant must obtain a favorable home study before a child can be placed with them. |
| How
Long Does It Take? Our average placement time for a white infant is one to 1 1/2 years, and for a black or biracial infant three to nine months following completion of the home study. What Is "Open" Adoption? Open adoption has various definitions since some adoptions are more "open" than others. Our experience has been holding a meeting between the birth parents with the adoptive couple whom they have chosen. After the birth, most adoptions include a plan for pictures and letters to be sent by the adoptive couple to the birth parents through the agency for a specified time. Some families and birth parents are comfortable with more openness and some with less. We are respectful of the needs of all parties. Who Are Our Birth Mothers? Our birth mothers come from a variety of backgrounds and their ages have ranged from 15 to 42 years. Background forms addressing the birth parents' genetic and health conditions and social background are presented to the potential adoptive family. If a birth mother is not under a doctor's care at her initial contact with us, we help her secure prenatal care, and if need be, we accompany her to the doctor's office. Every birth mother signs a medical release so that we can discuss the health and progress of her pregnancy with her doctor. The adoptive family is kept up-to-date regarding the birth mother's medical condition. Counseling and emotional support is given to each birth parent throughout the pregnancy and after the birth. All hospital records of the mother and baby are obtained and given to the adoptive family. Adoption Process To request a packet containing detailed information about the agency's services and fees, and a preliminary application, call or e-mail the agency. You are also invited to attend one of our free orientation meetings. |
