Garlock and Carroll Roofing Co., Inc. Solving the Challenges on the NC Legislative Building Reroofing Project

After being awarded the contract to reroof the NC legislative building in Raleigh, our work had just begun. Our first challenge was figuring out how to remove the old roof, get the new roofing materials up to the roof, and later, get ballast to the roof.

Compounding the problem, our only staging area was 80 feet from the building -- multi-leveled roofs that covered an entire city block.

After pricing crane rental and scaffolding, we decided they were far too expensive. That's when we decided to contact Dunn & Abee Roofing Equipment. After meeting with Dunn & Abee, all parties agreed that purchasing a Garlock PAUS Elevator Hoist would solve our problems for this complicated, high-profile job.

Following delivery of the equipment, Garlock's Tony Hutton was on hand to help set things up and to train us to use the new equipment. The first setup to the upper roof was at a 29 degree angle, which had never been accomplished before, according to Tony. However, after a few minor alterations to some of the accessories, we were ready to go.

The elevator hoist worked flawlessly throughout the duration of the project. It also saved us time and money on labor, and kept us from disrupting the NC General Assembly, which was in an emergency meeting.

All of us at Carroll Roofing Company, Inc. would like to thank Kirk Dunn, Gwynn Abee and Tony Hutton for their support and knowledge in helping us to successfully complete this high-profile job for the state of North Carolina.
