Do you know the main reason why the Pyramids are still erect and didnt fall apart as other ancient constructions? Because each stone was laid interlocking with one another, not cemented together. A single stone is independent from the total, but at the same time it works with the whole and its 'neighbors' to withstand gravity, natural earth movement, weather conditions, pressure, and other damaging factors. Interlocking Brick Pavers are no different. The three interlocking properties and the flexibility property work together as basics of making the whole pavement last longer. The vertical interlock transfers the load  to the surrounding bricks and not to a spot only, preventing the surface from cracking. The rotational interlock keeps the units from tilting by touching each other's sides, but tilts enough to add and compact sand from under the paver into the joints. The horizontal interlock disperses forces from braking, turning, and accelerating vehicles. To bust the interlocking forces, pavers contain small 'lumps' to their sides that increase the load bearing capacity by tighten the pavers union when weight is applied or minor settlement occurs. These lumps or crowns also assist in the drainage, preventing puddles that can destroy the surface. Besides, the interlocking properties, there is the flexibility property. As a flexible pavement, it moves the base slightly when weight is applied, distributing the loads through the layers of sand under the pavers.

Once the load reaches the soil, it uses a much larger area, thus preventing deformation or rut of the soil. Also, the sand under the pavers (base) and the sand between the joints, contain air among its grain, which serves to accommodate the materials when pressure is being applied and then return these materials to the previous position after the pressure is gone. This characteristic makes wonders when dealing with whether changes when contraction and expansion of base and pavers occur. Finally, the ability of the pavers to move and fit to the base, and this one in turn shape to the natural soil movement makes the whole paver experience a longer lasting adventure. We, at Creative Patios, Inc., believe so much in the quality of our work and the durability of interlocking concrete pavement, that we guarantee our work for 5 years.
