The Shaw Clinic for Plastic Surgery is accredited for surgery under all levels of anesthesia, including twilight sedation and general anesthesia by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). This organization is one of only three recognized by the Florida Board of Medicine to function in this capacity. This means that the Shaw Clinic is subject to regular inspection and must adhere to strict safety protocols established by AAAASF.

Dr. Shaw's Background

Dr. Shaw graduated M.D. with distinction from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada in 1978. He completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in 1984. Dr. Shaw became Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1985. He then completed two postgraduate fellowships in plastic surgery. Postgraduate fellowships are voluntary additional subspecialized training over and above the requirements for Board Certification. In 1986, Dr. Shaw completed a craniofacial (facial skeletal) plastic surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He then went on to complete a cosmetic surgery fellowship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami in 1987. Following this, Dr. Shaw was hired as a plastic surgery consultant by the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic sent Dr. Shaw to start their Plastic Surgery department at their new satellite clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Shaw ran this department as Head, Section of Plastic Surgery Mayo Clinic Jacksonville from 1987 to 1993. In 1989, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery for the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine. In 1993, Dr. Shaw established the Shaw Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Boca Raton, FL. In 1997, Dr. Shaw was elected Chief of Surgery for Boca Raton Community Hospital and served in this capacity from 1997 to 1999. He continues to serve on various hospital committees. Dr. Shaw has presented or published 93 scientific papers and chapters on plastic surgery both nationally and internationally.
