NCV/EMG & More
Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing
What is an EMG/NCV test?
Electrophysiologic tests are an extension of the neuromuscular evaluation and provide important clues to the location, character and severity of neuromuscular disorders. Referrals for electrophysiological test are from a variety of physician specialists including, but not limited to, orthopedic, internal medicine, primary care, family care and sports physicians.
Linda King, PT, ECS, CHT, and Stephanie Kurrie, DPT, ECS, are both board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as Clinical Electrophysiologic Certified Specialists to provide these services.

Lymphedema Therapy
What treatments work for lymphedema?
According to the American Cancer Society, complete decongestive therapy is their number one approach for rehabilitation of lymphedema. Complete decongestive therapy is a specialized treatment consisting of manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, exercise, nail and skin care. Complete decongestive therapy should only be performed by a certified lymphedema therapist. Stephanie Kurrie is a certified lymphedema therapist with Valdosta Physical Therapy.

Post Breast Cancer Program
How can physical therapy help following breast cancer surgery?
Following breast surgery, limitations in range of motion may develop. Patients may have difficulty with overhead activity or fastening their bra. Pain, stiffness, weakness, swelling and loss of function may develop.
Most of these conditions are a result of postural changes and fear of moving the affected arm. This may lead to muscle shortening, scar tissue formation, stiffness, swelling and ultimately weakness. These conditions may be preventable with an individualized short-term course of physical therapy.
